Our Responsibility

A Special Heritage

Our responsibility is best described by these words penned in 1776 “All men are created equal, that their Creator endows them with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” The Declaration of Independence of the United States of America perfectly describes the belief system we hold as a corporation.

There are many missions and paths one could choose or fight for. Ours is for our people, front-line workers who work hard for their families and our communities. Our industry is mainly non-union, meaning that our workers often do not have the protections that union workers do. The composite of workers is also primarily made up of minorities.  Understanding this and taking a step back allows one to contemplate a responsibility to stand up for those who cannot do so for themselves.

Our CEO Joshua Steven Gámez is a first-generation Mexican American, and much of our management team is purposely diverse. Our leaders include Men, Women, White, Black, Hispanic, and Haitian persons. Individuals with various life experiences, who speak different languages, and who see issues from different perspectives. It is said at East Coast Facilities that “the management team should look like the front-line workforce.” It is said that we are the “tip of the spear” with this particular responsibility. Perhaps this clear understanding is why East Coast Facilities is now America’s largest minority-owned business in the space.

Somos Uno

Somos Uno is a battle cry for those who have been overlooked for nearly a century in our industry. They are the front-line workers. We are responsible for making a difference in our industry. We have perceived the needs of the people in our industry and the challenges they face. Immigrants primarily power our industry. These people have come to this country for better lives for their families. They have left behind their families and all they have known to provide for them. These are hardworking people. People who have often yet to be offered living wages, health benefits, retirement options, and growth opportunities.

We have made it our mission to bring about real change in this industry by raising awareness of the needs of these working individuals and have since started the #somosuno movement. This movement allows our company and many others to stand together to care for our employees and our communities. No matter what industry you are in, you can also care for your workforce’s unique needs. Join the movement #somosuno.
